Secondly, as David Finn points out in his pretty comprehensive review, the Borg in Armada are rather weak compared to their counterparts in the Star Trek: First Contact movie and the ST:NG. Having the bad guys win is apparently not on the cards - the Federation always manage to save the day.
You can't assimilate the Enterprise for example, or assimilate the Earth and rule the galaxy (on a permanent basis, at least). This is an interesting approach in itself but does have the downside that you can't do anything that would alter the storyline. The first of the reasons is that the Borg campaigns, like those of the other races, slot neatly into the storyline. Unfortunately, those looking forward to assimilating the universe in one fell swoop may be a little disappointed upon picking up Star Trek: Armada, for a couple of reasons. After all, everyone knows that the when it comes to lethal weaponry and bottom-kicking ships, bad is best. They're so nasty, in fact, that I suspect at least half of all the people who bought Star Trek: Armada bought it just for the chance to play as the Borg.

So the Borgs could have a simple plan of shoot first, and destroy as many Dominion ships as possible, then take over the cloning facilities.Įverything is really based on tactics. Then when they do adapt, they can send massive boarding parties, before the Borg adapts.Īt the same time, it's reasonable to know that the Borgs have assimilated federation captains, and know that they will have a hard time assimilating the Dominions. They can beat the Borg if they move fast enough to prevent them from adapting. The Dominions can use kamikaze attacks to destroy a lot of cubes. They used new tactics that the Borg haven't seen before. The Borg's weakest point is they have to adapt to new tactics, that's why the Ent-D was able to take down a single cube. The Dominion was about to beat the federation and klingons if it werent for the combined forces of the romulans, and even then it would have been very hard to take over cardasia prime, w/o the help of defected cardasians. The things is, their tactics are so different compared to each other than it is really hard to tell who wins. Soldier to soldier 5th match, Borg wins, after adapting.
